Reuse-A-Shoe

Johnson County Recycling District collects used shoes to keep them from going to a landfill, where they may spend more than 200 years before decomposing, then sends them for reuse to individuals in Third World Countries.

Residents with school-aged children can donate their used shoes with their kids to most elementary, middle, or high schools in the county.  A list of participating schools will be posted prior to the collection.

The collection will take place from November 5-16 at several locations around the county:  Please make sure all shoes are paired by their laces or with rubber bands.

All shoes are acceptable except:

  • roller blades/skates
  • overly worn shoes
  • slippers
  • snow boots
  • shoes with over 2-inch heels.

Shoes will not be accepted prior to the collection dates.  If you have any questions, call the District at 738-2546
