The District has a strong environmental education program available to teachers, students, and community groups in Johnson County. These presentations are FREE and are brought to your classroom or meeting location. They are designed to be fun and interactive educational experiences for your group.  Click on the School Education link  below to view the program guide.  The District office also has a variety of  environmental books, videos, and activities available for loan.  Contact the District office at 738-2546 for additional information.

SCHOOL/STUDENT ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION – The District understands the need to start environmental education at a young age.  We offer at least 20 different environmental programs to kids of all ages right in your classroom!  ”The Earth Cookie”, “The 3 R’s”, ”Who Polluted the River?”, “Coffee Can Paper Making”, ”The Landfill Cookie”, and ”Squirmy Wormy Vermicomposting” are several of the most popular.  The District also offers are variety of Trash to Treasure crafts.  Call Kim Schafstall at 738-2546 or kim.schafstall@embarqmail.com to schedule programs today.  Space is limited and slots fill up quickly.  For additional information or to download a printable Environmental Program Guide, click here.

  • Visit Enviroville  http://www.in.gov/idem/files/welcome.swf where this cyber town is a great place for children and adults to learn about the environment. You’ll learn how things in your home, at school, even at the grocery store affect the environment. You’ll also learn ways to protect the environment by recycling and other methods.

 

MS4/WATER QUALITY AFFILIATION:  The Johnson County Solid Waste Management District is a member of the Johnson County Partnership for Water Quality.  In 2008, the District partnered with The City of Franklin, The City of Greenwood, The town of Bargersville, The Town of Whiteland, The Town of New Whiteland, The Town of Edinburgh, Johnson County, and The Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation District (JCSWCD) to form the Johnson County Partnership for Water Quality (JCPWQ), a Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer System (MS4).  Under 327 IAC 15-13 a/k/a Rule 13, The JCPWQ was established to protect Johnson County waterways, and to educate residents on the dangers of stormwater runoff.
